NEW YORK – On Tuesday the Suffolk County Legislature voted to approve Introductory Resolution 1347. This bill sponsored by Legislator Leslie Kennedy (R-Nesconset ), will appropriate $150,000 for remediation of the former Bavarian Inn site on the coast of Lake Ronkonkoma. The Bavarian Inn, which was a catering hall, was demolished four years prior, however the site still needs remediation to protect Lake Ronkonkoma. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recommends that natural vegetation with deep roots be planted along the berm to protect the lake.
“Protecting Lake Ronkonkoma is vitally important,” said Legislator Kennedy “Lake Ronkonkoma is the largest kettle hole lake on Long Island, and I am confident that with remediation we can ensure that Lake Ronkonkoma will be protected even when water levels rise.
The bill is now awaiting the signature of the County Executive in order to take effect.
