NEW YORK – At the General Meeting on Tuesday, March 28th, the Suffolk County Legislature unanimously approved a negative SEQRA determination for the proposed Port Jefferson – Wading River Rails to Trails project. The adoption of negative SEQRA determination means that there is no anticipated environmental impact for the project. The New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) requires all state and local municipalities to consider environmental impacts equally to social and economic factors when deciding to approve or undertake a project.
“With the approval of the negative SEQRA determination, I can continue to move the Rails to Trails project through the county process. Currently, the county is in to the conceptual design phase,” said Legislator Anker. “There has been a large amount of support from the community, but I look forward to continuing to work with residents who have questions or concerns.”
The next public information meeting for Rails to Trails will be this Wednesday, April 5th at 6:00pm at the Miller Place High School (15 Memorial Drive, Miller Place, NY 11764). For additional information, please contact Legislator Anker’s office at 631-854-1600.
