
LONG ISLAND, NY – Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman in Village of the Branch in Smithtown early this morning.
A woman was driving her 2014 Chevrolet Cruze westbound on Jericho Turnpike near Terry Road at 1:48 a.m. when her vehicle left the roadway, struck a brick light column in front of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, overturned and hit a tree. Jericho Turnpike was closed for several hours due to the investigation and the removal of large amounts of debris that resulted from the crash.
The victim was transported by Smithtown Fire Department ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
