
LONG ISLAND, NY – Suffolk County Police Pattern Crime Detectives have arrested two men for a series of burglaries and larcenies which occurred in East Farmingdale, Lake Ronkonkoma, Brentwood, North Patchogue and East Islip.
According to police, since March 2015, three food establishments and a bank were burglarized. Once inside, the suspects damaged automated teller machines (ATMs) in order to steal cash. On August 15, the exterior ATM at Chase Bank, located at 499-84 Sunrise Highway, North Patchogue, was cut open.
Salvatore Maiolo, 64, of Long Beach, was charged with four counts of Burglary, one count of attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, one count of Possession of Burglar’s Tools, one count of Unlawful Possession of Radio Devices and Resisting Arrest.
After a thorough investigation by Pattern Crime Unit Detectives, Salvatore Maiolo, 64, of Long Beach, was identified as one of the suspects responsible for the burglaries and surveillance was initiated.
Monday, August 24, 2015 at approximately 5:30 a.m., Pattern Crime Unit Detectives observed Maiolo and an accomplice, Frank DeJohn, 44, of Yonkers, break into the Applebee’s located at 2550 East Sunrise Service Road, East Islip. The men attempted to break into the ATM located within the restaurant. Detectives arrested DeJohn and Maiolo at the location.
Maiolo was charged with four counts of Burglary, one count of attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, one count of Possession of Burglar’s Tools, one count of Unlawful Possession of Radio Devices and Resisting Arrest.
Frank DeJohn, 44, of Yonkers, was charged with one count of Burglary, one count of Possession of Burglar’s Tools, and one count of Unlawful Possession of Radio Devices.
DeJohn was charged with one count of Burglary, one count of Possession of Burglar’s Tools, and one count of Unlawful Possession of Radio Devices.
The incidents occurred at the following locations:
- March, 10 2015 – Citibank, 2261 Broadhollow Road, East Farmingdale.
- July 8, 2015 – McDonald’s, 174 Portion Road, Lake Ronkonkoma.
- July 28, 2015 – Applebee’s, 300 Motor Parkway, Brentwood.
- August 15, 2015 – Chase Bank, 499-84 Sunrise Highway, North Patchogue.
- August 24, 2015 – Applebee’s, 2550 East Sunrise Service Road, East Islip.
Both Maiolo and DeJohn were being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today, August 25, 2015.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
