LONG ISLAND, NY – Litter takes away the beauty of a community and can negatively impact the environment. Unfortunately, this all too common problem is even more serious when litter ends up in the Great South Bay, wetlands, streams and other areas of Islip’s local marine environment.
KIC takes initiative to protect and maintain the beauty of the environment by trying eliminate litter across Long Island.
One way concerned citizens can help is to form a group, choose a waterway and participate in the upcoming International Coastal Cleanup. Every year, Keep Islip Clean volunteers join people from around the world to pick up and also collect data on the litter and debris found by waterways.
This project is a rare opportunity to remove sources of marine contamination and assist the Ocean Conservancy, which analyzes the data in order to monitor pollution trends.

The main cleanup date is Saturday, September 19th. Keep Islip Clean provides data collection material, instructions and cleanup supplies. Call KIC at 631-224-2627 for more information and to register your group for this important event.
