
LONG ISLAND, NY – Major Case Bureau detectives report the arrest of a Freeport man for an Assault that occurred on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 3:31 pm in Freeport.
According to detectives, while sitting in front of his home on N. Long Beach Avenue with a friend, the 23 year old male victim was approached by Jose Rodriguez, 26, of Freeport, a person with whom he has had an ongoing disagreement with. Rodriguez, who was concealing a box cutter in his hand, put it up to the victims face and slashed him from his cheek to his chin causing a deep laceration. Rodriguez then fled the scene on foot.
Jose Rodriguez, 26, of Freeport, allegedly slashed a man’s face with a box cutter after being involved in an ongoing disagreement. Rodriguez cut the victim’s face from his cheek to his chin, which required 60 stiches from a plastic surgeon to close the wound. He is being charged with two (2) counts of Assault 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree.
The victim was transported to an area hospital where he received 60 stitches from a plastic surgeon to treat his wound.
After being contacted by investigating detectives, Rodriguez, on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, turned himself into the First Precinct where he was placed under arrest.
The defendant is charged with two (2) counts of Assault 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead today, 07/29/2015.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
