LONG ISLAND, NY – The Homicide Squad is investigating a homicide that occurred in Inwood last night at approximately 6:30 P.M.
According to detectives, Fourth Precinct police officers responded to 39 James St., after receiving a 911 call from a passerby, for a deceased male in front of the above listed location. The deceased is described as a male black, possibly in his 20’s. No identification of the deceased has been made. The cause of death is pending until Medical Examiners report. There is no further information available at this time.
Update 7/21/2015: The identity of the deceased individual has been confirmed. The victim, Deshawn Henry, 22 of the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn was struck in the head by an unknown person or persons and left for death in front of a home in Inwood.
Deshawn Henry, 22 from Crown Heights Brooklyn was fatally struck in the head in front of an Inwood home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime. Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
An investigation is currently in process and Police are asking for assistance in gaining more information in this homicide.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
