LONG ISLAND, NY – On Friday, July 10, 2015 Fair Media Council based in Bethpage held its Fifth Annual Summer Social Media Boot Camp at Briarcliffe College. A fun and informative panel discussion, expertly moderated by David Chauvin, offered insight and priceless advice at how social media can be used to level the playing field against major brands and endless budgets. The dream team of speakers included RebelMouse’s Jarrod Dicker, re:DESIGN’s Paul Biedermann and BigBuzz’s Kevin Kelly.
Social media thought leader Steve Rubel opened the program with a thought-provoking talk on the need for systems-thinking behind any social media strategy.

Networking breaks gave attendees the chance to meet and share social media experiences, plus the opportunity for some one-on-one social media advice from experts. Tweeting was ongoing, but lots of folks made time to get some selfies with former New York Jet Erik Coleman.
Didit CEO & We-Care.com Founder Kevin Lee illustrated the importance of storytelling in his featured presentation. An added bonus for the audience was a Q&A session with Lee and WALK reporter and anchor David North.
Attendees took notes on tips and pointers to better their knowledge in social media and ways to improve their social media experiences.
Before the final round of social media therapy began, Hofstra Prof. Jeff Morosoff walked the audience through one of the most challenging of social media topics: building a community of brand ambassadors. With insight and best practice ideas from Protiviti’s Karen Paulik, North Shore-LIJ’s Ally Bunin and Long Island Business News’ Adina Genn, the conversation focused on real solutions that everyone could put into play.

Finally, more than a few attendees admitted they finally understood the importance of the relaxed dress code of shorts and flip flops: It makes it ‘social,’ so humans may talk to and help other humans. And, when things like titles and corporate hierarchy disappear, amazing conversations happen.
Guests enjoyed learning about social media while being in the comfort of casual clothing. The intended relaxed dress code provides attendants to feel comfortable in a more social and laid back environment. The official dress-code for the event was Shorts and Flip-Flops.
Everyone had questions. Social media changes so fast, even the best of ’em need help sometimes. Downtime between speakers was put to good use, as FMC-approved social media therapists provided one-on-one counseling.
Social media therapists worked one-on-one with guests to provide assistance to attendees who had any questions or issues with social media. Any question, big or small were able to be answered by therapists.
Many thanks to the experts:
Social media experts had a blast at FMC sharing their knowledge of social media with others.
