LONG ISLAND, NY – The Nassau County Major Case Squad has arrested a Uniondale man for a Burglary that occurred on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 11:15 am in Roosevelt.
According to detectives, a 24 year old female victim was upstairs in her Underhill Avenue home when she heard a noise on the first floor. The victim went downstairs to investigate when she was met by two males both armed with black handguns. One of the suspects forced the victim upstairs into a bedroom while a second subject ransacked the home. Both suspect fled the scene with a cell phone, assorted jewelry and an undetermined amount of cash.
Selvin Esquivel, 33 of Uniondale, was charged with one count of Robbery 1st degree, one count of Burglary 1st degree, one count of Robbery 2nd degree, one count of Burglary 2nd degree, one count Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd degree and Endangered Welfare of a Child.
After an investigation, police say the defendant, Selvin Esquivel, 33 of Uniondale, was located at the Nassau County Correctional Facility where he was being held on unrelated charges. Esquival was charged with one count of Robbery 1st degree, one count of Burglary 1st degree, one count of Robbery 2nd degree, one count of Burglary 2nd degree, one count Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd degree and Endangered Welfare of a Child. The defendant was arraigned for these charges at First District Court in Hempstead.
No other information was immediately available on the second suspect, who police previously described as a male Hispanic.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
