LONG ISLAND, NY – An elderly woman from East Hampton was hospitalized in a serious but stable condition after she was assaulted by her handyman last week according to East Hampton Town Police.
According to 83 year old Irene Foster, of Northwest Woods, was abused by handyman Brontie O’Neal, 50, who had been staying with her for the past month or so to do work in her yard.
Last Saturday morning, Foster Woke up and noticed that $200 dollars was missing from her wallet. She questioned O’Neal about the missing money and in response he allegedly punched her in the face and shoved her on to the ground where she hit her head on the refrigerator, she told police.
Brontie O’Neil, 50 of Bridgehampton is scheduled to be arraigned on an indictment tomorrow in criminal court in Riverhead, Suffolk County DA Thomas Spota said. He allegedly assaulted 83 year old Irene Foster after she realized he stole $200 from inside her wallet on Saturday.
Ms. Foster suffered a fractured skull with brain swelling and several broken bones, but is expected to make a full recovery, said Montauk News.
Struggling to get up off the floor of her home, Foster had the energy to make it over to the room of a tenant who assisted in calling the police for her. As police responded to the call and arrived to the scene of the crime, O’Neal grabbed her keys and took off with her car and cell phone. She does not know where he went.
Back in 2012, another incident occurred where O’Neil stole a 2010 Honda Accord from an elderly lady he knew that passed away. He sold the car for $5,400 to a Southampton woman who filed a police report for a stolen car after Mr. O’Neil could not provide her with proper documentation.
Mr. O’Neal being charged with the unauthorized use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent and petit larceny, both misdemeanors. In 2012, he was also charged with third degree grand larceny, a felony.
Judge John J. Toomey (third floor of the courthouse) will unseal O’Neal’s indictment tomorrow. The court calendar will be called at 9:30 am.
