
LONG ISLAND, NY – Suffolk County Police have arrested a home health aide for consecutively stealing from her elderly patient during the past month.
An investigation was initiated on May 9th by the Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives when a 74-year-old Coram woman reported numerous pieces of jewelry, valued at over $3,000 missing from her home.
Melissa Acevedo, 27 of Selden is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd degree after stealing over $3,000 dollars worth of jewelry from her patient’s home in Coram.
Detectives made a connection with her home health aide who helped out the elderly victim at her residence. Melissa Acevedo, who worked for the victim stole multiple pieces of jewelry between May 1st and May 9th from her Coram home.
Acevedo was employed by Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk County.
Acevedo, 27, of Selden was charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. Acevedo is scheduled to be arraigned today at the First District Court in Central Islip.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
