
LONG ISLAND, NY – Suffolk County Police arrested a man for stealing money from a tip jar at a coffee shop in West Babylon yesterday, Thursday, May 14, 2015.
According to police, a man entered Starbucks, located at 519 Montauk Highway, stole $14 dollars from a tip jar and fled on foot eastbound on Montauk Highway. An employee ran out of the store and flagged down First Precinct Police Officer Matthew Augustine who was driving by. The employee provided a description of the suspect and Officer Augustine located the man a short distance away.
Robert Pearlman, 39, was charged with Petit Larceny and will be arraigned on a later date. The stolen money was recovered. The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
After a brief foot pursuit, Officer Augustine arrested the man, who was identified as Robert Pearlman. Pearlman, 39, undomiciled, was charged with Petit Larceny and will be arraigned on a later date. The stolen money was recovered.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
