Cops: Surveillance, Tips Lead to Ridge Man, Christopher Collins, 25; Charged in Two Suffolk Bank Robberies

LONG ISLAND, NY – Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for robbing two banks in Ridge earlier this year.
According to police, a man robbed the Bank of America, located at 15 Bennetts Road, East Setauket, on January 31, and the Capital One Bank, located at 250 Smithtown Blvd., Nesconset, on February 17. In both robberies the man presented a threatening note to the teller.
Christopher Collins, 25, of Ridge, was charged with two counts of Robbery 3rd Degree. The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Utilizing video surveillance and tips from members of the community, Pattern Crime Unit detectives identified the suspect as Christopher Collins. After identifying Collins, the Pattern Crime Unit placed him under surveillance and he was arrested yesterday, April 28, 2015, on Middle Country Road, in Ridge at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Collins, 25, of Ridge, was charged with two counts of Robbery 3rd Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today, April 29 2015.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
