
(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested a Manhattan man for fatally striking someone with a vehicle that he stole from a parking lot in North Bay Shore last month.
Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested Edwin Gutierrez on December 5 2014. Gutierrez was charged with Murder 2nd Degree, Robbery 1st Degree and Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree.
According to the original report, on Friday, November 28, 2014 at approximately 5:45 a.m. Gutierrez, 48,
struck and killed a North Amityville man while stealing the victim’s car.

The victim, Dionel Ramirez had parked his Hyundai in the parking lot of 7-Eleven, located at 148 Pine Aire Drive, and left the vehicle running with the door open. Ramirez was picking up excess food to bring to a soup kitchen when Gutierrez entered his vehicle and attempted to drive away. Ramirez tried to intervene and was ran over with the Hyundai.
Ramirez, 69, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.
Gutierrez, 48, of West 156th Street Manhattan, will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip tomorrow Sunday, December 7.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
