Cops: Central Islip Man, Louis Muicela, 38, Charged with DWI Following Fatal Three-Car Crash in Commack

(Suffolk, LI) Suffolk County Police have arrested a Central Islip man for driving while intoxicated following a three-car crash that killed a man in Commack yesterday Friday, November 28, 2014 at approximately 4:15 a.m.
According to the report, Karl Njerve was driving a 2011 Lincoln Town Car westbound on Jericho Turnpike when his vehicle was struck by a 2000 Jeep, driven by Louis Muicela, which was traveling northbound on Commack Road. The Jeep then struck a 2006 Nissan that was stopped at a red light on southbound Townline Road.
Njerve, 42, of Port Jefferson Station, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Muicela, 38, of Central Islip, was treated for minor injuries at Huntington Hospital and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. The driver of the Nissan, Carmen Lee Choy, of East Northport, was not injured.
Louis Muicela, 38, of Central Islip, was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today. The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash and has not been interviewed to contact Vehicular Crime Unit detectives at 631-852-6555.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
