Suffolk Police Investigating Hit-and-Run Crash in Central Islip; Victim Transported by Helicopter to Stony Brook Hospital

(Islip, NY) Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Central Islip last night.
According to the report, a male pedestrian was crossing Carleton Avenue at Brightside Avenue when he was struck by a northbound vehicle that fled the scene at approximately 9:25 p.m. The victim was transported by Suffolk County Police Helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was in serious condition and being treated for head injuries.

The victim’s identity has not been determined. He is described as a Hispanic male in his mid to late 20s. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a graphic design in the front and back, Buffalo-brand blue jeans, a royal blue belt and gray Sketchers sneakers.
The incident is under investigation by the Vehicular Crime Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information on this crash is asked to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
UPDATE: 8-18-2014 4:10PM – Edgar Abrego, 25, of Central Islip, has been identified as the pedestrian who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Central Islip on August 17. The investigation is continuing.
