Fatal Vehicular Accident in Inwood; Motorcyclist, Melissa Harris, 31, Lost Control, Struck Telephone Pole

(Inwood, LI) The Nassau County Police Department has reports the details of a fatal auto accident that occurred on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 2:50 am in Inwood.
According to Fourth Squad detectives, Melissa Harris, 31, of 456 Beach 40th Street, Far Rockaway and her 41 year old female passenger were operating a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle west on Sheridan Boulevard when she lost control and struck a telephone pole. The operator suffered head/ facial trauma, a right wrist fracture, a right femur fracture and was transported to Jamaica hospital in a Nassau County Police Ambulance for treatment.
According to detectives, Harris, 31, of Far Rockaway and her 41 year old female passenger were operating a motorcycle west on Sheridan Boulevard when she lost control and struck a telephone pole. Imagery by Google Maps.
Melissa Harris was pronounced deceased by a staff physician at 4:15 am. The female passenger suffered a concussion and was transported by the Inwood Fire Department to a local area hospital for treatment of her injuries. She is listed in stable condition. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. There is no apparent criminality. The investigation is ongoing.
