Cops: Bay Shore Man, Ronald Cherry, 44, Charged in DWI Crash in Brentwood; Six People Treated for Various Injuries

(Brentwood, NY) Suffolk County Police today arrested a Bay Shore man for driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a crash that injured six people in Brentwood early this morning.
Ronald Cherry was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Spur Drive North when his vehicle struck a 2008 Toyota Avalon, which was traveling westbound, head-on at 1:52 a.m.
The driver of the Toyota, Bernadette Joachim-Baker, 43, of Miami, Florida, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for minor injuries. Her passenger, Melissa Joseph, 21, of Brentwood, was transported to Southside Hospital for serious injuries. Cherry, 44, of Sonia Road, Bay Shore, was also treated at Southside Hospital for minor injuries.

Four other people in the Toyota were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip for various injuries.
Third Squad detectives charged Cherry with Driving While Intoxicated. He will be held overnight and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on August 10.
