Police: Hempstead Woman Charged with Endangering Welfare of Child; Left Son, 7, Unattended in Roosevelt Field Mall

(Garden City, NY) The Nassau County Police Department has reported the arrest of a Hempstead woman for an incident that occurred on August 5, 2014 at 5:30 pm in East Garden City.
According to Third Precinct officers, Patricia Juarez, 44, of 67 Terrace Avenue, Apt. C14, left her 7 year old son unattended in the Lego Store at Roosevelt Field Mall, 630 Old Country Road, while she shopped at other stores in the mall.
Patricia Juarez, 44, was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and an unrelated warrant for Petit Larceny. She will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead today, August 6, 2014.
The store’s manager, who became concerned for the well-being of the unsupervised child, contacted mall security who called 911. During the investigation it was learned that the child was left unattended for approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Juarez, who then returned to the store, was placed under arrest without incident. The child was released to a family member.
Juarez is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and an unrelated warrant for Petit Larceny. She will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead today, August 6, 2014.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
