(Long Island, NY) The Medford couple charged with 13 counts of robbery in the first degree and two counts of attempted robbery in the first degree will be arraigned tomorrow, January 29th, in Riverhead on a grand jury indictment, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota has announced.
Christopher Marino, 29, and his girlfriend, Jamie Greco, 23, allegedly robbed at gunpoint Subway Sandwich Shops in Lake Ronkonkoma, Ronkonkoma, Nesconset, Medford, North Patchogue and Patchogue, as well as nine retail locations including convenience stores, gas stations and fast food outlets.
“From the second week of December through the first week of this month, the defendants committed these brazen armed holdups,” District Attorney Spota said, “and the surveillance footage of the early crimes led police forensics experts to believe Marino was probably using different handguns for the robberies, and one of the weapons was likely a .45 caliber pistol. During the investigation Pattern Crime Unit Detectives also established the couple was spending the stolen cash on drugs – likely heroin – from a dealer in the Shirley area,” DA Spota said. “That’s where Marino and Ms. Greco were headed when they were arrested on January 15.”
The couple was living above an auto body shop on Chesapeake Avenue in Medford where Marino worked, and the pair used vehicles at the shop, switching license plates on occasion, for transportation to and from the robbery locations that District Attorney Spota said spanned four police districts in western Suffolk County.
Marino and Greco are scheduled to appear before Judge Stephen Braslow Wednesday for arraignment. The calendar call is at 9:30 am.
The press conference held on January 17th, 2014 at Suffolk County Police Headquarters at 12:30 p.m. in regard to this incident where Spota said that a Suffolk County grand jury was reviewing evidence for an indictment on the couple.
