(Merrick, NY) A North Merrick man was arrested on Friday, October 18 for stealing an ambulance in Merrick on Wednesday, October 8 at 11:57 pm.
Salvatore Brecciano, 46, of 995 Tyrus Ct., entered a 7-11 store located at 203 Sunrise Hwy in N. Merrick, used a debit card to purchase a Budweiser 12 pack of beer and then left the store, heading northbound on Babylon Tpke, according to police.
The defendant passed the Merrick Firehouse located at 2075 Meadowbrook Rd. and entered an ambulance, which was parked in the front, with the keys in the ignition.
The defendant put the beer down next to the ambulance and pulled away.
Shortly thereafter First Precinct Police Officers recovered the unoccupied ambulance on Durham Rd./N. Jerusalem Ave. in N. Merrick.
There was no property loss to the ambulance and the vehicle keys were missing at the time of the recovery.
A canvas was conducted at the 7-11 which revealed the defendant purchased the beer at that location.
First Squad detectives arrested Brecciano on Friday, 10/18/13 at his residence.
The ambulance keys were recovered from his auto.
He is being charged with Grand Larceny 2nd Degree and was arraigned on Saturday, October 19 in First District Court, Hempstead.
