(Long Island, NY) Two men were arrested for the assault, robbery and attempted murder of a 24 year old male victim, who was shot in the leg as one of the subjects tried to steal his car keys out of his car in Nassau County last Monday.

According to detectives, a 24 year old male victim was in a 2001 Honda at the corner of Nassau Parkway and Allen Street, in Hempstead on Monday, July 22 at 7:27pm, when Corey S. Heard, 25, of 47 Mason Street, Hempstead, entered the vehicle to remove the vehicle’s keys but was unsuccessful after the victim put the car in gear. Heard then displayed a handgun and fired striking the victim in the right leg. He then fled the scene on foot northbound on Nassau Parkway, according to the report.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for a non life threatening gunshot wound.
Police say an investigation revealed that both men, including Brian Tonery, 22, of 28 Glendra Drive, Deer Park, were involved in the assault, although Police would not specify into the depth of Tonery’s actions or any specifics in the incident outside of what has already been released.
The defendants are charged with Robbery 1st degree (Attempt) and Robbery 2nd degree (Attempt). Additionally defendant Heard is charged with Murder 2nd degree (Attempt), Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at First District Court in Hempstead. Tonery was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, July 26, 2013.
