(Long Island, NY) A New Cassel man was arrested Friday after allegedly stabbing a woman on the street in Westbury and beating a man who came to her aid, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Luis Andrade, 56, a resident of 284 Siegel Street, allegedly approached a 24 year-old woman at approximately 11:30 p.m. as she was exiting a building, produced a kitchen knife, and proceeded to stab her in the abdomen, cops said.
As the attack commenced, a 40 year-old man who witnessed the altercation rushed over and attempted to aid the victim, but instead Andrade hit the man with an aluminum baseball bat, according to police.
Both victims were rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in Uniondale and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The female was treated for a single stab wound to the stomach, while the male was treated for contusions to his head and a separated left shoulder.
It is unknown as of press time if Andrade had a relationship with the female victim, but according to public court records, the case was treated as a domestic violence issue. Police do not speculate that Andrade knew the male victim.
Andrade was arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead on charges of two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He remains in custody after a judge ordered $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond and is due back in court on June 25.
