Teen Kills Mother’s Ex-Boyfriend While He Was Assaulting Her

Police investigating stabbing death in Mastic Beach
(Long Island, NY) A man in Mastic Beach was killed on Monday by his ex-girlfriend’s son while he was allegedly in the middle of assaulting her inside her home, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Norman Shields, 48, who reportedly has a history of violent felonies, had forced his way into the Selden Road home of his ex, Natasha Bivens, 31, and started an argument with her and her new boyfriend while wielding a firearm at approximately 3:45 a.m., cops said.
After the confrontation became heated, Shields proceeded to attack Bivens until her son, aged 13, intervened when he fired a shot by using a knife to stab Shields to death, according to authorities.
Shields was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was officially pronounced dead by a medical examiner, police said.
Bivens and Shields have 4 year-old daughter from their previous relationship. The child was in the home at the time of the incident but was not injured, according to reports.
Police said that Bivens’ son is currently not facing charges, and that their investigation is ongoing.
