Longwood Jr. High Teacher Sentenced for Distributing Child Pornography
May 30, 2013
(Long Island, NY) A Longwood Junior High School mathematics teacher and soccer coach was sentenced Wednesday to six months in jail and ten years of probation supervision for sharing child pornography with others, including minors.
Christopher Teague, 35, of Coram, entered into a plea agreement with the court in February.
Judge Barbara Kahn sentenced Teague to six months in jail and five years of probation supervision on each of eight counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child (Penal Law 263.15); each of the seven counts in the indictment of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child (Penal Law 263.16); and each of five counts of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree (Penal Law 110/235.22).
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said prosecutors recommended that Teague be sentenced to significant upstate prison time. “The defendant, a junior high teacher and coach, admitted distributing pictures of children engaged in sex acts to others, including other children,” D.A. Spota said. “A term of imprisonment in an upstate correctional facility is the appropriate punishment for these crimes.”
As a result of his conviction, Teague’s New York State teaching certificates for Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grades 1-6, and for mathematics, Grades 7-12, were revoked.
His sentences will run concurrently. Teague’s probation supervision will include alcohol, narcotic, and sex offender conditions.
