Major Labor Union Endorses Howard Weitzman, CPA for Comptroller
May 13, 2013
(Long Island, NY) Today, former Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman announced he has received the endorsement of three critical labor unions which represent over 29,000 working men and women in New York State.
“I am proud to have the support of activists and leaders who have a long history of putting working people first and electing progressive leaders to public office. Working families in Nassau County pay too much of their hard-earned money in taxes to subsidize inefficient government. The working men and women represented by these unions deserve to have confidence their tax dollars are being properly spent, and support my record of saving money, proven independence, and success in rooting out fraud, waste, and abuse in Nassau County Government,” said Howard Weitzman.
Weitzman announced the support of Communications Workers of America Local 1104 and Locals 338 and 1102 of the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).
“These have been tough economic times for many of our members and that’s why we feel strongly we need a proven and effective County Comptroller here in Nassau – and that’s why we have endorsed Howard Weitzman for re-election,” said George Bloom, President of the Communications Workers of America, Local 1104.
“Howard Weitzman has a proven record of delivering for the taxpayers of Nassau County. His independent audits saved millions and his prescription drug savings card made vital medication more affordable for thousands of Nassau families. Howard has earned our support and we will do everything we can to make sure he’s the Democrat nominee,” said John Durso, President of Local 338 of the RWDSU.
“Howard Weitzman was the fiscal watchdog and middle-class advocate that Nassau taxpayers need and deserve. He was an extraordinary Comptroller for eight years and has earned our support,” said Frank Bail President of RWDSU 1102.
Howard Weitzman, recently endorsed by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, is running to replace George Maragos in the November 5th general election.
