(Long Island, NY) Wesley Paul, 41, was convicted late this afternoon of second degree murder in the August 7, 2010 stabbing death of his wife.
The jury began deliberations on Monday afternoon (May 6).
Monica Paul, 40, died of a fatal neck wound that severed her carotid artery and jugular vein.
During the struggle with her estranged husband, the victim bit off part of his nose. Suffolk homicide detectives said the couple, who had separated three months before, had an argument about the defendant’s visitation of their then-6 year old son. Wesley Paul retrieved a knife from the kitchen and attacked his wife while she was taking a shower.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said the defendant will be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on June 24.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
