Thomas Vaughan, 59, is accused of striking and killing a pedestrian
(Long Island, NY) A resident of Lake Grove taken into custody by cops after allegedly driving while drunk Sunday morning and taking the life of a pedestrian in Lake Ronkonkoma, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Thomas Vaughan, 59, was heading westbound on Express Drive North in his 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV at approximately 2:30 a.m. when he hit a male pedestrian who was crossing the street near Carroll Avenue, police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released by police as of press time, pending notification of their family.
Vaughan was arrested at the scene of the accident and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday and released after a judge had set his bail at $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash.
Vaughan was scheduled to report back to court on Monday.
