Nassau County Police attempt to unravel the mystery behind her death
(Long Island, NY) A mystery in Massapequa is one step closer to being solved today, as Nassau County Police said they have finally discovered the identity of a dead woman found lying outside of a local area home this week.
The body of 60 year-old Irene Luetje of North Massapequa was found on the property of a vacant home at 27 Ocean Avenue on Thursday by construction workers laboring a nearby home, according to authorities.
The construction workers had originally entered the Ocean Avenue property when they reportedly had heard running water from inside of the home located there and decided to investigate. When they approached the house, they discovered the dead body of a then-unknown woman, who was seemingly in her mid-50s, police said.
Luetje was later identified by the Nassau County Medical Examiner.
The cause of Luetje’s death is not known as of press time, but authorities working the case have confirmed there are no visible signs of injury, trauma, or apparent foul play. The Medical Examiner’s investigation is currently ongoing.
However, according to police, it remains a mystery how her body wound up outside the Ocean Avenue home. Police are currently investigating the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Nassau County Homicide Squad at 516-573-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244 TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
