Boy left alone in apartment; police have ruled the incident a homicide.
(Long Island, NY) An Amityville boy who was found unconscious in his home, the victim of an apparent violent attack that claimed his life two hours later, has been identified, according to Suffolk Police.
4 year-old Adonis Reed was found inside apartment located at 89 Kethcham Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, alone and unconscious after an unknown individual had called 911 at 3:49 p.m. and requested an ambulance for a boy in urgent need of medical help.
“There were signs the little boy had suffered violence,” Suffolk County Police Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick said in a statement to the Associated Press. There were no adults were present in the apartment, which is located in a run-down two-story house, according to police.
Reed was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where doctors pronounced him dead at 6 p.m.
An autopsy performed by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner on Thursday uncovered evidence that have caused investigators to rule the case as a homicide, according to police.
Reed is reported to also have a 6 year-old sister who is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services. The boy’s parents have not been identified by police.
Any person with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Suffolk County Homicide Unit at 631-852-6392 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
