Join Your Neighbors at PUPS for Parkinsons 1K Dog Walk
March 30, 2010
(Farmingdale, N.Y)-Taking your dog for a walk will take on a whole new meaning at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2010. Dog lovers are in for a howling good time when they come to Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon for the annual PUPS for Parkinson’s Dog Walk to benefit Parkinson’s disease research. Registration is $50.
Parkinson’s disease is a debilitating neurological disorder that affects more than 1 ½ million Americans, and an estimated 12,000 Long Islanders. The PUPS for Parkinson’s Dog Walk is hosted by PUPS for Parkinson’s Disease, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. Proceeds will benefit research for a cure.
Baylee Cravotta, the beagle spokesdog for the PUPS for Parkinson’s Dog Walk, will be the starter for the walk that will begin at 11:00 AM. Same day registration begins at 10:30 AM, but it is recommended that participants register their dog online at www.pupsforparkinsonsinc.org.
In addition to the walk that will take dogs and their owners along a comfortable one-mile course around Belmont Lake, dogs and their owners can also participate in best costume and owner-dog look-alike contests, and a talent competition. There will be an Ask the Veterinarian table, obedience and agility demonstrations and much, much more.
The three top fundraisers are eligible to win special prizes. First prize is a $200 VISA Gift Card (must raise at least $1000). Second prize is a $100 VISA Gift Card (must raise at least $500). Only one prize will be awarded in each category. All donations must be received by June 18, 2010.
Don’t have a dog? It’s okay. The fun goes on. Join the walk and bring a camera! To place your best paw forward, it is recommended that you register for the walk in advance.
