Roosevelt Man Arrested for Driving While Intoxicated After Vehicle Struck, Critically Injured Bicyclist in Wyandanch

(Wyandanch, NY) Suffolk County Police arrested a Roosevelt man for driving while intoxicated after his vehicle struck and critically injured a bicyclist in Wyandanch early this morning.
Marion Johnson, 63, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Straight Path when his vehicle struck a bicyclist, Ishmeil Thomas, who was riding his bicycle on Straight Path at 1:27 a.m.
Thomas, 36, was transported via Wyandanch Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where is being treated for multiple injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

Johnson was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
Johnson will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
