(Long Island, NY) A 25 year old Bayshore man, Alejandro Padilla, was sentenced today in Suffolk County criminal court for driving drunk and leaving the scene of a fatal crash in December of 2012, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced.
On December 22, 2012, Padilla drove in Honda Civic into the rear end of Zenaida Falcon’s Hyundai, propelling the victim’s vehicle across Carleton Avenue into a utility pole. Seriously injured, Ms. Falcon, 47, died the next day.
“Fortunately, an eye witness to the crash saw the defendant’s license plate and reported it to police,” District Attorney Spota said. “Officers were waiting for Padilla when he arrived home, and the lab analysis of his blood showed his blood-alcohol level two hours after the fatal crash was .09.”
Judge Richard Ambro sentenced Padilla to two to six years’ incarceration in an upstate correctional facility prison for his conviction on each charge in the indictment: manslaughter in the second degree, two counts of vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, and a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.
