Suspect Violently Resists Arrest; Attempts to Flee Scene in Vehicle, Crushing Special Operations Officer

(Fresh Meadows, NY) A man was arrested on Sunday, January 5 at 4:40p.m. in Fresh Meadows for an armed robbery that occurred the day before.
The man, who happens to be named Muhammad Ali, 21, violently resisted arrest by attempting to flee the scene in his vehicle and crushed a police officer between two cars. As he turned toward a second officer, the officer fired a shot, striking Ali.
According to police, Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations Officers located Ali, in front of 178-10 Wexford Terrace. Ali was wanted in connection with an armed robbery which occurred on January 3, 2014 in Hicksville.
Four plain clothes officers identified themselves, displaying their shields, and approached the vehicle which the suspect was in. That’s when the suspect crushed one of the officers between two cars and then shot by the second officer.
The injured Officer was taken to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset where he is being treated for injuries to both legs.
Ali was transported to an area hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing. Charges are pending.
