Long Island NYPD Police Officer Killed In Car Crash

North Babylon resident Joseph Pritchard, 30, died at the scene, according to reports
( Long Island, NY) A New York City Police Officer hailing from Long Island was tragically killed in a traffic accident early Monday morning on the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills, according the Suffolk County Police Department.
Joseph Pritchard, 30, of North Babylon had been driving his 2008 Dodge pickup truck westbound between exits 51 and 52 in Dix Hills when he stopped for unknown reasons in the right-hand lane at approximately 2:20 a.m., authorities said.
Moments later, Pritchard, who was off-duty at the time, was rear-ended by an International box truck. Upon impact, both vehicles are reported to have exploded into flames, according to police.
Pritchard, an eight-year veteran of the NYPD hired in 2005, who was serving at the Midtown South Precinct, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bronx resident Eduardo Garcia, 34, the driver of the International box truck, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Huntington Hospital. Barakat Trucking is the owner of the truck, police said.
Both trucks have been impounded by Suffolk Police while they perform safety checks. An investigation is ongoing, according to reports.
