Funeral for Sgt. Patrick Divers, 51, is scheduled for today after dying while on duty
(Long Island, NY) The funeral for a Levittown-based New York Police Department sergeant that tragically passed away of a heart attack while on duty is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
Sgt. Patrick Divers, 51, a member of the Brooklyn North narcotics squad, was participating in a narcotics investigation in Brooklyn on Friday when he began to experience intense chest pain and convulsions starting at approximately 10:30 a.m. Divers was stationed in his patrol car at the time, according to reports.
Divers, a member of the Brooklyn North narcotics squad, was rushed to nearby Woodhull Medical Center in full cardiac arrest, but could not be revived and was pronounced dead by medical examiners, authorities said.
According to a statement released by an NYPD spokesman, there was no criminality involved in the officer’s death.
A wake for Divers was held at Kenneth-Chapey & Sons funeral home in Bethpage on Monday and Tuesday. His funeral will be held at Wednesday morning at Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church of Ozone Park at 10:45 a.m. Divers will then be taken to be buried in Farmingdale at St. Charles Cemetery.
Divers, a St. John’s University alumni and a 25-year veteran of the NYPD who had more than 1,000 arrests and 35 recognitions to his credit and during his career, leaves behind a wife, daughter and son.
