Angel Laporte, 54, taken in by authorities for Public Lewdness
(Long Island, NY) A Connecticut man living in Selden was arrested Friday for multiple acts of public lewdness, according to Suffolk County Police.
Angel Laporte, a 54 year-old fugitive sex offender from Connecticut currently residing in Selden, was arrested at approximately 6:50 p.m. Saturday evening at his home after a woman reported that she had seen him masturbating at an East Jericho Turnpike Barnes and Noble in East Northport at 9:50 p.m. Friday, police said.
The woman reportedly yelled at Laporte, causing him to flee the scene. Authorities later tracked him to his home, according to police.
Suffolk County Second Squad detectives later discovered that Laporte had allegedly committed additional lewd public acts at the West Babylon and Commack Public Libraries on May 7, 2012, and at the Deer Park Public Library on Jan. 5.
Laporte is wanted by the New Milford Police Department in Connecticut for failing to register as a sex offender due to a public indecency conviction in 2003, according to authorities. Exact details of the crime are not currently available.
An arraignment for Laporte was held on Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip on four charges public lewdness. Details of the arraignment were not available as of press time.
