Senate Roundtable On Prescription Drug Abuse Crisis

(Long Island, NY) Senator  Kemp Hannon (R, C, I, - Garden City), Chairman of the Senate Health  Committee  and Senator Jeff Klein, Chair of the Senate Committee on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, will conduct a roundtable discussion on the prescription  drug  abuse crisis in New York State.  Among the topics to be discussed  is  “real  time”  reporting  by  physicians and pharmacists when prescribing  and  dispensing  narcotic prescription drugs such as oxycodone and hydrocodone.
  
The  roundtable  discussion  will be held today, Monday, February 13, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Room 124 of the Capitol.
 
This  is  the  second public roundtable held by the two committees on this issue.
  
Among  those  expected  to  participate are: Parents of victims whose deaths  were  attributed  to prescription drug abuse; representatives from: the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement; the Attorney  General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit; Walgreen’s Pharmacy chain; a  physician from Bronx-Lebanon Hospital; and representatives of drug abuse prevention organizations.
      
The  Senate  is  also expected to act Monday on a package of bills to address the rapidly-growing problem of narcotic prescription drug abuse, as well  as a resolution memorializing the Governor to declare April 28, 2012, Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
