Hall of Famer Lou Carnesecca and Former NBA Players to Help the Archangel Michael Local Church Reach Matching Grant

(Long Island, NY) Hall of Famer and St. John’s great Lou Carnesseca and former NBA players Billy Schaeffer and Mel Davis will come together to lend their support to Port Washington’s Archangel Michael Church for “A VERY SPECIAL EVENING” ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7 AT 6:30 PM AT WOODSIDE ACRES COUNTRY CLUB IN MUTTONTOWN.  To top things off, Chef Christopher Lee, who garnered 2 Michelin stars at Gilt, will offer a special culinary demonstration.

Proceeds from the dinner will go towards the Archangel Michael Church’s Million Dollar Sprint—a campaign to build a gymnasium for the children of the church. The Million Dollar Sprint was kicked off when an anonymous donor pledged one million dollars towards the construction of the gym, under the condition that the church raises a matching million dollars in donations. The church was only given six months to raise the matching funds, and their work has been especially urgent since all donations will have to be returned if the goal isn’t met by the December 31st deadline. To date, the Church has raised over $700,000 and is targeting  “A Very Special Evening” for the final push.

“We have asked the community to step up in a big way for this project,” said Gym Committee Co-Chair John Petras.  “Everyone has dug deep and been so generous—this evening is both a chance to achieve the goal together and to celebrate this historic moment for our community.”

Everyone attending the fundraiser will receive signed sports memorabilia by Hall of Famer Chris Mullin and 1980 Olympic hockey gold medalist Ken Morrow.  The event is sponsored by Marathon Energy and The Whitmore Group.
