11th Annual Our Kids in Action Youth Conference

(Melville, NY)
Over 2,000 Long Island middle school students will attend the 11th Annual Our Kids in Action Youth Conference at Farmingdale State College on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011. This year’s conference will double as a rally against bullying, as the keynote speaker will be 15-year-old author and anti-bullying activist Jamie Isaacs.

After being bullied for over five years and having to change schools in order to avoid further bullying, Isaacs decided to put her ordeal into words and write a book that  tells her powerful story. She also created a foundation, The Jamie Isaacs Foundation for Anti-Bullying, Inc., to give victims of bullying a voice.

More recently, Isaacs was featured in Newsday and interviewed on NY1 for her help advocating a bill, proposed by New York State Senator Jeffrey D. Klein (D) of the 34th Senate District, that would make cyber-bullying a crime comparable to stalking. Most recently, Isaacs has been honored as November’s News 12 Making a Difference story.

Performing at this year’s conference is 14-year-old Long Islander, Lexxi Saal, who is a singer, songwriter, and philanthropist. Saal is the founder of LexxiLoves.org, which is an organization that provides love and support to children in foster care, and a speaker for BeatitBully.com, which helps spread awareness about the emotional damage of bullying.  She will be performing her own original song, “Just Breathe.”  Most recently, Saal was featured in News 12 for her involvement with the Beat It Bully Tour.

This year’s conference will also include a special video appearance from Season 10 American Idol contestant, Robbie Rosen. Rosen, who battled with hip synovitis as a child and spent time in a wheelchair and walker, has overcome many obstacles to get where he is today. He will perform his new song, “Hang On” for the students via video feed.

The Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE) Players Jazz Ensemble will perform the National Anthem at this year’s conference. FREE is a not-for-profit provider of innovative services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness or traumatic brain injury on Long Island.

The conference will also include a fundraiser for The Marine Toys For Tots Foundation. The Marine Color Guard will be making a presentation for this great cause.
