(West Islip, NY) – Julia Rivera, NA, of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, was among several members of the community recently honored at the Town of Islip Hispanic Heritage Celebration Awards. This event was established to recognize exceptional contributions made by local residents to the town.

“I have been fortunate to know and work with so many wonderful individuals on Good Samaritan’s Mother/Baby Unit for the past 33 years. The hospital has been my home, and the employees my friends and family. I am honored to represent Good Sam,” said Rivera.

Rivera was nominated primarily for her passion for bringing families together and for her integral role as a resource to thousands of patients, many of whom are Town of Islip residents. She is well versed in the mother/child programs Good Samaritan offers, such as pregnancy classes, breastfeeding, Lamaze, infant care and infant massage, offering a unique opportunity for the entire family to become involved in the parent-child bonding process. She helps to deliver the most effective treatment plan to best address each patient’s need for care. Rivera resides in Brentwood.

“Ms. Rivera has touched so many moms and their families with her kindness, expertise, compassion and commitment. Her knowledge and confidence have guided many patients through the childbirth process,” stated Good Samaritan Hospital’s Nurse Manager Joanne Schroeder, RN.

Good Samaritan Hospital cares for approximately 3,000 maternity patients each year, including women experiencing high-risk pregnancies, and offers expert perinatal/neonatal care for mothers and their babies. Additional services include a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the Center for Pediatric Specialty Care and the first pediatrician-staffed, 24-hour-a-day Pediatric Emergency Department in Suffolk County.
