(West Islip, NY) – Bohemia resident Carol DiSalvo was born with congenital foot and knee issues. She had her first bilateral foot surgery at age nine, but over the years her left foot weakened in what became a chronic condition. At age 67, following years of searching for relief, she was faced with the prospect of having serious foot surgery that could put her out of commission for more than a year, with no guarantee of a better quality of life.

Following diagnoses from two orthopaedic foot surgeons and several years of failed orthotics, DiSalvo came to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in search of an alternative. After meeting with certified orthodist Bernardo Batista, CO, CPed, she experienced hope for the first time in years. The Good Samaritan affiliated clinician was able to correct the alignment of the foot, eliminating her pain.

“Mr. Batista listened to me. He knew what needed to be done and did it to perfection,” said DiSalvo. “Many good people have helped me navigate the rocky road of life; He has a permanent place at the top of this list.”

Good Samaritan’s Rehabilitation Department provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy and orthotic services to patients. The care at Good Samaritan is unique, including hands-on treatment in a one-to-one setting with a dedicated clinician.
