(Long Island) - “Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and
generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to
your life its highest beauty and joy”
Francis Pharcellus Church

salvation-army.jpgFor almost 30 years, The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree has been
providing toys and warm clothes to those in need in Suffolk, but more
adopting angels are needed. It is a wonderful project for a company to
take on. The employees enjoy being Santa for a child in need and the child
gets some of their Christmas wishes fulfilled. Every angel on the giving
tree is its own unique child; there is only one like it.

Everyone knows that things are a little different this year (even more than
last year) although the recession ended over 1 year ago there are many
still waiting for the improvements to reach them. There are many families
who are still unemployed or under employed (in Suffolk unemployment stands
at 6.9%) who turn to The Salvation Army for help. We are inundated with
calls from people looking for help with the holidays; therefore, we have
plenty of children to be on angels. On the other side, many companies have
trimmed their payrolls over the last couple of years and so do not have the
number of people to take and fill angels that they once had. They are
taking fewer angels and so we have fewer people to adopt the angels.

So, there is a wonderful opportunity for new companies to get involved and
set up an angel giving tree at their place of business. Just like the
Christmas tree lot, the trees come in all sizes! We can tailor the tree
and the angels to your specific need. It will be the most satisfying, team
building project that your company will ever undertake. To sign up for
your angels and get more details, please contact B. Paul Vincent,
Development and Public Relations Associate, at (631) 363-6100.
