familychildrens2.jpg(Bethpage, N.Y.) - For the 19th consecutive year, King Kullen Grocery Co., Inc., has made a major donation to benefit summer camp programs for underprivileged children in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  This year’s donation totaled $12,000 and is being divided evenly between Family Service League (Suffolk County) and Family & Children’s Association (Nassau County) for their camp programs.  King Kullen Co-President and COO Brian C. Cullen made the announcement.

“King Kullen’s gift will help fund scholarships for children to enroll in day and sleep-over camps this summer,” explained Cullen.  “As a family-operated business, we are committed to assisting families across Long Island.”

According to J. Donald Kennedy, Co-President and COO, “Camps provide a stimulating and fun environment where children can learn interesting and new activities and meet other children their age.  We hope to make these important programs available to the many children whose families lack the resources for summer camp.”

Family Service League President and CEO Karen Boorshtein stated, “We are very grateful to again receive this generous donation from King Kullen.  These camps are often the highlight of the year for the children we help.”

Family and Children’s Association Manager of Events Marisa Paladino added, “The gifts we receive from individuals and corporations like King Kullen make it possible for us to continue to provide these wonderful experiences for Long Island’s young people.”

Headquartered in Bethpage, New York, King Kullen Grocery Company, Inc. is recognized by the Smithsonian Institution as America’s first supermarket.  Founded in 1930 by Michael J. Cullen, King Kullen today employs more than 4,800 people and operates 46 supermarkets throughout Long Island and Staten Island, as well as four Wild by Nature stores.
