hille_family_pic.jpg(Mastic Beach, N.Y.) - James and Ciara Hille will begin their sweat equity on their new home when they join Habitat for Humanity volunteers to raise the walls at 196 Beaver Drive, Mastic Beach.    Construction will begin at 9 a.m. with the first wall raised by 10 a.m.

This home is sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings Bank.  Bank employees have volunteered to participate in today’s wall raising. Astoria Federal has helped to sponsor and build 25 Habitat Suffolk homes since 1997.

James and Ciara Hille have been working hard to provide for their two children, James Jr. (5) and Juliana (1), despite several obstacles. The family was required to move out of an employer-provided apartment in 2009 after James lost his job at a local management company.  Since then the family has been living with relatives in cramped housing.  James currently works as an electrician’s helper and Ciara has worked as a technician at a veterinarian hospital for six years.

“We do not have the money up front for a down payment for a home, and we would be so grateful to be able to work towards accomplishing that with the help of others.  We are young, ambitious and hardworking individuals that would like a place to call home (our own) and to raise our family,” said James Hille.

Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry dedicated to building decent, affordable housing in partnership with low-income working families in Suffolk County.  Since 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk has helped to house 141 families.  For more information, visit www.habitatsuffolk.org
