Senator Kemp Hannon Announces Candidacy For 6th State Senate District
June 4, 2010
(New York, N.Y.)-Kemp Hannon (6th SD) announced that he is officially a candidate to represent the 6th Senate District of New York State.
Hannon received wide support at the annual Republican Designating Convention held in Levittown on May 19. He has sponsored landmark legislation on healthcare, real property tax law and relief, as well as promoting safety with regard to children, identity theft and medical procedures. Hannon has a long history of working across the aisle, fighting to reduce taxes and cut spending.
“Long Islanders are tired of talking. Bottom line, we need to lower the tax burden on all New Yorkers and stop this out of control spending,” said Hannon. “That’s why I supported and pushed for an aggressive jobs plan that provides tax credits to businesses that create new jobs, eliminates the state corporate franchise tax for small businesses, and rolls back the personal income tax surcharge that hit small businesses last year,” Hannon continued.
New York lost 269,000 jobs last year alone and already, if the governor’s budget is adopted, the State could lose as many as 40,000 jobs. “I sided with the people as the governor increased taxes on businesses by $3.6 billion last year,” said Hannon. “There’s no magic act that can erase the circumstances that have brought our State to this page, but instead of playing the blame game, we need to come together on both sides of the aisle and adopt a meaningful plan toward a speedy recovery for New Yorkers,” Hannon continued.
