(Mineola, N.Y.)–Attorney Marc Gann, a criminal defense attorney at Collins, McDonald & Gann, PC and a former Nassau County Assistant District Attorney, today is being installed as the 108th president of The Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA), the largest suburban bar association in the country, at the Bar’s offices in Mineola. Gann will replace Emily F. Franchina, whose one-year term ended May 31, 2010.

In addition, the following local attorneys and judges were installed as officers to one-year terms: President-Elect Susan Katz Richman, Principal Court Attorney for Nassau County Court; 1st Vice President Marian C. Rice, partner at  L’Abbate Balkan Colavita & Contini of Garden City; 2nd Vice President Peter Mancuso, an assistant district attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office; Treasurer John McEntee, partner at Farrell Fritz, P.C.; and Secretary Hon. John L. Kase, Acting Justice Supreme Court, Judge of Nassau County Court.

Focusing on Legal Leadership

President Gann’s theme for his term is “Legal Leadership,” creating new programs, events and services to help mentor legal professionals in all levels of their careers in the face of a difficult economy and to provide legal leadership in helping the local community. Among his plans are a series of seminars geared to third-year law students to connect them with experienced Long Island lawyers and managing partners in large and small firms; the creation of a Leadership Institute to give a head start for newer attorneys, and developing a turnkey solution package to help attorneys who are launching their own practices for the first time. He would also like to host in-depth, hands-on workshops on topics such as trial techniques and work stress relief and expand networking opportunities through social media. In addition, he will continue to foster the caring nature of the attorneys on Long Island who provide thousands of pro bono, or free, hours of legal services to the public.

“The idea is to better interconnect our smart, resourceful attorneys here on Long Island with each other and to further tap into the incredibly generous nature of our members who every day assist our residents here in Nassau County, some  facing the most difficult economic times in their lives,” he said. “The Nassau County Bar Association has become the place the best legal practitioners and strongest legal leaders, providing the legal information and assistance needed.”

Criminal Defense Career

Marc Gann has spent the past two decades as a Long Island-based criminal defense attorney, where he has handled numerous high-profile cases throughout the NY metropolitan area.  An experienced trial lawyer, Gann defends all types of criminal cases – from minor traffic matters and impaired driving cases to the most serious major felonies – in the courts of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Nassau County and Suffolk County.

He has previously served as an elected Director of the Nassau County Bar Association, and is Past Chair of the Criminal Courts Law and Procedure Committee, where he planned and chaired continuing legal education programs and seminars for criminal lawyers throughout the country. He has also served as chair of several other committees at the Nassau County Bar Association, including the Grievance Committee.  He was honored as the recipient of NCBA’s 2001 Directors’ Award for his outstanding contributions to the legal community, was named by the Criminal Courts Bar Association as “Practitioner of the Year”, and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers by martindale.com.

On the state level, Gann is an active member of the New York State Bar Association, and has frequently lectured to the local and state bar associations and the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.  In recognition of his superlative trial skills, he was asked to serve as Team Leader for the 2002 National Institute of Trial Advocacy program at Hofstra University Law School, and continues to serve as Special Professor of Law at Hofstra University School of Law.

Gann is frequently sought after by the media for his expertise regarding issues of criminal law and has been featured in numerous television and newspaper media outlets.  He is a past president of the Former Assistant District Attorneys Association of Nassau County and is a member of the American Bar Association and other legal and professional associations.  He is also highly active in community associations and volunteer programs, including serving for many years as a mentor for middle school children at risk through the NCBA Student Mentor program, as well as speaking at local high schools and civic organizations on the topic of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Marc Gann received his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law in Hempstead and his undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College. He is admitted to practice both in New York and Maryland.

The Installation Ceremonies at NCBA were sponsored by CBS Coverage Group and Nassau Federal Educators Credit Union.
