(Bethpage, N.Y.)-The deadline to enter the Fair Media Council’s Media Savvy Teacher Award program is June 15, 2010. Any 4th-to-6th grade teacher in the United States is eligible to enter, as long as they are using news in the classroom to further childrens’ educational experience.

“Using news in the classroom encourages critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills,” said FMC Executive Director Jaci Clement. “In addition, reading and writing are stressed and current events come into focus. When you teach a child how to use news correctly and incorporate it into his or her life, you create a world-class citizen. That’s what will be demanded of our future leaders, and that’s the catalyst behind the FMC Media Savvy Teacher Award program.”

Entries will be judged by a panel of community leaders.

FMC’s Media Savvy Teacher Award entry form is available at www.fairmediacouncil.org. The form is simple to complete, and may be emailed back to info@fairmediacouncil.org, faxed back to 516.224.1864 or mailed back to Fair Media Council, Briarcliffe College, 1055 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714. Questions may be directed to 516.224.1860, ext. 102.
