Long Island Restaurants Gain Local Support for Haiti Relief
April 5, 2010
(Long Island, N.Y.) Doherty Enterprises Inc., a franchisee operating 21 Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar and 19 Panera Bread restaurants on Long Island, recently raised a total of more than $25,000 for the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. Applebee’s, guests purchased “paper apples” for $1 and up that were then posted in the restaurant, while Panera guests made cash donations at the registers. The dollars add up and, according to Frank Cassano, representative and CEO of the American Red Cross, one hundred percent of the monies received from these campaigns will go directly to the Haitian relief effort. Greg Desrosiers, a General Manager for Applebee’s who has family in Haiti, was delighted that both chains in Nassau and Suffolk counties took the initiative to back this philanthropic effort.
Edward Doherty, president of Doherty Enterprises Inc. said, “It’s not just about supporting our local neighbors; it’s also about helping our global neighbors in need. We have several employees with relatives in Haiti so we organized this fundraiser to do our part to provide aide to their homeland.”
