(Long Island, N.Y.)-Senator Kemp Hannon (R - 6th District) will join with officials, first responders and community leaders to discuss preparation and response operations to this month’s nor’easter and determine if Long Island is best prepared for the next big storm or Hurricane.

During this public roundtable, the panel of experts will seek to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of response efforts to this past storm, and highlight possible areas of improvement.

Nassau County’s 911 emergency phone banks were unable to handle the influx of calls during this past storm and needed to divert to Suffolk County’s system.

In addition, it has been reported that the LIPA system is only able to handle sustained winds of 40 mph.  This storm brought winds of 75 mph.  Hurricane Gloria saw winds of 115 mph.

Experts agree that Long Island is long overdue for a major hurricane and the 2010 hurricane season is rapidly approaching.
